La Hacienda - This spacious restaurant is located on the beach and serves buffet lunches and Mexican-style à la carte dinners.

    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Opened in October 2002, the Occidental Grand Cozumel caters to discriminating travelers seeking the convenience of an all-inclusive vacation, a beautiful natural setting, the serenity of a secluded site, and the gratification of Mexican surroundings.

Amenity highlights: A white sundeck furnished with lounge chairs and white umbrellas surrounds a large, crescent-shaped relaxation pool. From the sundeck, a 100-yard wood bridge leads through and over a mangrove jungle to a second, larger activities pool that includes a shallow children's section. Lapped by transparent turquoise water, the beach is blindingly white under the Caribbean sun and runs more than 1.5 miles north. Avian choirs inhabit both forest and jungle. Performances occur daily, at dawn and dusk.

Insider tip: Surrounded by the world's second-largest barrier reef, which runs from Cancún to Belize, Cozumel is famed for scuba diving and snorkeling. Waters directly in front of the resort and to the south are part of a national park. The resort's dive center offers excursions directly from the beach to prime sites on coral reefs just five to 30 minutes away by boat.

The 255-room Occidental Grand Cozumel features architecture and design inspired by Mexico's colonial era. The yellow and earthy-orange main building surrounds a postcard-perfect fountain courtyard containing stone benches and wrought-iron streetlights. Facing the courtyard are a gift shop/clothing boutique, car rental and tour desks, and a lobby bar. Softly burbling fountains constitute the resort's signature.

A two-story building near the main building contains a disco nightclub and a health-and-beauty spa on the top floor. The spa includes a sauna and spa and offers massage, body and facial treatments, and hair and nail care. A doctor's office and children's club occupy the ground floor.
